Where STEM Meets Sawdust: Girls Construction Summer Camps Recap
This summer, the Whitbeck Construction Education Center in Gansevoort, NY, once again came alive with the sounds of saws, drills, and excited voices as middle school girls took part in two empowering weeks of Girls Construction Summer Camps.

From July 21–25, Camp 1 welcomed girls entering 6th–8th grade for a hands-on introduction to construction. Campers built toolboxes, dodecahedrons, Viking chairs, charcuterie boards, and vertical gardens, while also enjoying a site tour field trip and the always-popular Construction Olympics. For many, it was their first time using power tools — and their confidence soared with each project.
The following week, July 28–August 1, Camp 2: Advanced brought back Camp 1 graduates for an even bigger challenge. Projects included a sitting bench, dog house, Adirondack chair, and a team-based Amazing Construction Race. With skills sharpened and teamwork on full display, campers tackled more complex builds and left with projects — and memories — they’ll treasure for years.
Both camps combined real-world construction skills with STEM learning, creative problem-solving, and the power of collaboration. The result? A new generation of young women inspired to explore the world of building and design.
